Charging of Insulators
Since charge cannot flow through insulators, neither conduction nor induction can be used to charge, insulators, so in order to charge an insulator friction is used. Whenever an insulator is rubbed against a body exchange of electrons takes place between the two. This results in appearance of equal and opposite charges on the insulator and the other body. Thus the insulator is charged.
For example rubbing of plastic with fur, silk with glass causes charging of these things.

Conceptual Questions Based On Capacitance
Last modified on:5 years agoReading Time:15MinutesQ.1. Where is the knowledge of dielectric strength helpful?Answer: Dielectric strength is the maximum value of electric field that can be applied across an insulatorbefore its breakdown or the magnitude of electric field intensity across insulator at which it startsconducting. This value helps us in determining the value of maximum potential,…

What will happen if the plates of a charged capacitor are suddenly connected by metallic wire?
Last modified on:5 years agoReading Time:1MinuteIf we connect the plates of a charged capacitor by metallic wire, then charge will begin to flow from higher potential to lower potential and the energy stored in the capacitor gets converted into heat energy. Therefore, the capacitor will be discharged immediately.
