Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) MAIN will be conducted by the NTA from 2019 onwards. This Examination was being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) till 2018.

JEE Main 2019 – The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) 2019 twice in a year according to the latest announcement by the MHRD minister Prakash Javadekar. JEE Main 2019 will be a computer based test to be held from January 6 to 20 and again from April 7 to 21 for undergraduate engineering admissions into NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Registrations for JEE Main 2019 for the January exam will be available from September 1 to 30, 2018. JEE Main applications for the April exam will be available in the second week of February. NTA will set up mock test practice centres in August to facilitate students with their preparation. There will be no change in syllabus, exam pattern, fee or language of the exam. Around 26673 seats will be available to eligible candidates. Details of JEE Main Paper II for B.Arch admissions are not clear as of yet. JEE Main 2019 is a national level engineering entrance examination for which approximately 12 lakh candidates register annually.


What’s New in JEE Main 2019?

  • National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken over from CBSE and will be conducting the exam twice a year – one in January and one in April.

  • The exam will be computer based from 2019
  • Practice centres will be set up across the country where students can go on every Saturday and Sunday to prepare.
  • Mock tests will be released in August for candidates to practice at home or at the centres set up for this purpose.
  • Candidates can appear in one or both the exams. The better of the scores will be considered for admissions.
  • There will be no change in exam pattern, syllabus, fees or language of the exam.
  • The exam will be held on multiple sessions across days with 2 lakh candidates per session. The total slots will be eight for both the January and April exams.


Eligibility Criteria of JEE Main 2019

The eligibility criteria of JEE Main 2019 lists out all of the conditions and requirements that the candidates have to meet to apply for the exam. 

Age Limit:

  • The candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1994

  • For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the date of birth should be on or after October 1, 1989

Qualifying Exam:

The candidates should have qualified 12th standard (or equivalent) examination in 2017 or 2018 or must be appearing in 2019.

12th Standard Qualifying Marks:

To apply for JEE Main examination, there is no prescribed pass percentage. The candidates should have just qualified their 12th standard examination.

Number of Subjects in Qualifying Exam:

5 subjects including the following:

  • Language
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject
  • Any other subject

Number of Attempts:  To be notified

For admissions into IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs:

Candidates should have secured minimum 75% marks (65% for SC/ST category candidates) or should be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards.

Eligibility for Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Haryana and Uttarakhand:

As per the individual state rules
