About These Case Study Questions
This page provides chapter-wise Case Study Questions for CBSE Class 10 Maths with complete answers, following the exact board examination pattern prescribed by CBSE for 2025–26. Each chapter contains multiple sets of case study questions — real-world scenario passages followed by 4–5 MCQ sub-questions — covering all chapters from Real Numbers (Chapter 1) through Probability (Chapter 15). These questions are specifically designed to help students practise the Section E case study questions that appear compulsorily in the CBSE Class 10 Maths board paper.

📋 What Are Case Study Questions in CBSE Class 10 Maths?

📖
Format and Structure
A Case Study Question presents a real-world scenario as a paragraph — a situation involving a student, a city plan, a shop, a field, or any everyday context — followed by 4 to 5 sub-questions in MCQ format, each worth 1 mark. The entire case study is worth 4–5 marks and appears in Section E of the CBSE Class 10 Maths board question paper.
📊
Marks Distribution in Board Paper
In the CBSE Class 10 Maths board examination, Section E contains 3 case study questions — each carrying 4 marks (4 sub-questions × 1 mark each). All 3 case study questions are compulsory. Together they contribute 12 marks out of 80 marks to the total board paper score — making thorough case study practice essential for top scores.
💡
Why Case Study Questions Were Introduced
CBSE introduced Case Study Questions under NEP 2020 and the Competency Based Education framework to shift assessment from rote learning to real-world application. Rather than testing whether students can recall a formula, case study questions test whether students can identify which concept applies to a real situation and use it correctly — a significantly higher-order thinking skill.

🎯 High Priority Chapters for Case Study Questions in Board Exam

Based on CBSE board paper analysis — previous year question paper trends
🔥
Most Frequently Tested in CBSE Board Papers
Chapter 5 – Arithmetic Progressions — Seats in stadium, salary structures, savings — real-world AP scenarios appear very frequently in board case studies

Chapter 9 – Applications of Trigonometry — Heights and distances with towers, buildings, flagpoles — highly visual and scenario-friendly for case study format

Chapter 12 – Surface Areas and Volumes — Converting shapes (cone + hemisphere combinations), water tanks, gift boxes — consistently high case study frequency

Chapter 13 – Statistics — Mean, median, mode from frequency tables — real-world data scenarios fit naturally into case study format
📊
Regularly Tested — Practise These Too
Chapter 6 – Triangles — Similarity, proportionality, Pythagoras in real-world contexts

Chapter 7 – Coordinate Geometry — Distance and section formula in map/city plan scenarios

Chapter 14 – Probability — Cards, bags, dice in real-world decision-making scenarios

Chapter 4 – Quadratic Equations — Area problems, profit-loss, speed-distance-time scenarios

✅ How to Solve Case Study Questions in Class 10 Maths — Step by Step

1️⃣
Step 1 — Identify the Chapter Before Reading Details
Before reading the full passage, scan the scenario for keywords. “Tower”, “angle of elevation” → Trigonometry. “Circular path”, “radius” → Circles or Areas. “First term, common difference” → AP. “Mean, frequency” → Statistics. Identifying the chapter first helps you activate the right formula set before reading the detailed scenario.
2️⃣
Step 2 — Extract and Label All Given Values
Read the passage and underline every numerical value given. Write them out separately labelled — height = 20m, angle = 30°, radius = 7cm, etc. Most Case Study questions in Maths give you more information than any single sub-question needs — having all values labelled clearly prevents confusion when switching between sub-questions.
3️⃣
Step 3 — Treat Each Sub-Question Independently
Each of the 4 sub-questions tests a different aspect of the same scenario. Do not carry wrong working from one sub-question to the next — each sub-question is independently solvable using the values from the passage. If you are stuck on sub-question (ii), move to (iii) and come back — all sub-questions carry equal marks.
4️⃣
Step 4 — Use Elimination for MCQ Sub-Questions
Since all case study sub-questions are in MCQ format with 4 options, elimination is a powerful strategy. Substitute each option back into the relevant formula to check — sometimes faster than solving from scratch. Also check units in each option — if the answer should be in cm² and two options are in cm, those two are automatically wrong.
5️⃣
Step 5 — Attempt All Sub-Questions, No Negative Marking
There is no negative marking in CBSE Class 10 Maths board examination case study questions. Always attempt every sub-question — even an educated guess is better than leaving it blank. If genuinely unsure, eliminate clearly wrong options and choose from the remaining. A 50-50 guess on 2 remaining options still gives better expected marks than zero.

About Case Study Questions for Class 10 Maths

Case Study Questions represent one of the most significant changes to CBSE Class 10 Maths examination format in recent years. Introduced as part of CBSE’s Competency Based Education initiative under NEP 2020, these questions require students to apply mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios — a fundamentally different skill from solving textbook exercises or standard numerical problems. Our comprehensive collection of Chapter-wise Case Study Questions for Class 10 Maths is designed to give students the targeted practice they need for this specific and important examination format.

How Case Study Questions Are Marked in the CBSE Class 10 Maths Board Paper

The CBSE Class 10 Maths board examination carries 80 marks. The question paper is divided into five sections — Section A (20 MCQs), Section B (5 questions of 2 marks), Section C (6 questions of 3 marks), Section D (4 questions of 5 marks), and Section E which contains 3 case study questions of 4 marks each, totalling 12 marks. Section E is compulsory with no internal choice, making it the only section where students cannot opt out of any question. This makes case study practice particularly strategic — 12 guaranteed marks are available to any student who has practised this format thoroughly.

What Makes a Good Case Study Practice Resource

Not all case study question collections are equally useful for board examination preparation. The most effective practice resources include scenarios with genuine real-world contexts (not just textbook problems rewritten as paragraphs), sub-questions that test different mathematical skills within the same scenario, answer keys that show the correct option with a brief explanation, and coverage of all chapters — not just the most popular ones. Our chapter-wise collection is built around these principles, with questions that match the style, difficulty, and structure of actual CBSE board examination case studies.
